From Difficult First Birth to “I Did It”: Stacey's Powerful Hypnobirthing VBAC Birth Story

Stacey Teaches Mum and Baby Yoga Classes at Jasmine Yoga Tynemouth

Birth stories are so powerful - and this one is no exception!

One of my lovely clients Stacey from MamaStaceyYoga has kindly shared her powerful VBAC* birth story, following a difficult first birth.

After our Hypnobirthing course together, Stacey approached Primrose's birth with a completely different mindset, using breathing techniques and fully trusting her body throughout labour.

Her birth story is a beautiful reminder that birth can be calm, instinctive and empowering.

Told in her own words, you can read Stacey's incredible birth story below.

My Waters Broke at 10pm

At 10pm Sunday evening, just as I was about to go to bed my waters broke in a proper movie style gush! My husband was in bed (just about to drift off he tells me 😂) so I went upstairs and calmly told him even though the adrenaline was building up inside me.

He told me to get bed and we did some deep breaths together to calm the excitement / nerves and then chatted for a couple of hours about how we thought it still might take a while for anything to happen. I loved this part so much!

Early Labour in the Night

At 12am I started to feel mild contractions, not regular at all so I tried to sleep, I had the urge to go get in bed with my (almost) 3 year old son and I actually managed to sleep for an hour and half, I truly believe this was the massive boost of oxytocin (and rest) that my body needed to allow labour to progress as quickly as it did and I love that he was part of his sisters birth.

Things Started Ramping Up

I’m guessing it was around 1.30am when I was woken up by more intense contractions and spent time in the bathroom between sitting on the toilet and getting in the shower to manage pain, things were seriously ramping up hand quickly!

I attempted to get back into bed around 2.30am convinced I might be able to sleep some more but there was no chance of sleep I was moving around a lot and preferring to be on all fours and my partner knew it was time to call the hospital who advised us to come straight in. At no point did we time or monitor the contractions, my husband knew by movements that it was time to go and I trusted!

The Journey to the Hospital

We arrived at the hospital at 3.40am and honestly the car ride and walk to the birthing centre was brutal, probably the hardest part of labour, I did not want to be sat down at all, I had my eye mask on just wanted silence at this point, I was really concentrating on just breathing and relaxing my body.

“You’re Already 8cm”

When we got into our birthing room I was examined and told I was 8cm dilated which I could not believe! I asked for a pool room but there wasn’t one available so popped on my TENs machine which is the only thing I used throughout to manage pain (other than the breathing techniques).

Labour Land

Contractions were close together and intense and I was having visions and visualising going into the cosmos to collect my baby , but simultaneously was still able to chat and rest in-between.

It was truly like being in between two worlds, super trippy!I I soon felt I was getting the urge to push and the sensation of crowing which was obviously super uncomfortable but it felt more of a relief than painful .

Meeting My Baby Girl

I think it was just 3 pushes until she arrived at 4.48am, the midwife was incredible and completely hands off other than catching my girl and handing her straight to me , I couldn’t quite believe it , I just kept saying ‘I did it’ , ‘we did it’!

Closing Thoughts
